The great benefit of older planes is that their cruising altitude is less than half of today's airliners. Not only does that mean great views :) but also that the fuselage isn't subjected to countless compression/decompression cycles. Spare parts can be replaced pretty much endlessly, but structural airframe damage often means the end of the plane's useful life.

I think the Dash is great.

@Ophelia It is commonly used by a number of airlines worldwide (including the US and Europe). The safety standards meet European standards.

@Lynette It totally depends on how many people show up at the airport really. I would change at Subang, you will probably get a better rate than on the island.

@Lars It uses the main Changi airport which almost all other airlines also use.

What are the chances of getting seats when you're waitlisteD?
Also is it better to exchange money at Tioman or at KL Subang Airport?

I have learned that the Dash-7 aircraft is an old aircraft and has been out of production since years ago. I read that it's even difficult to get the parts. I wonder how safe it is.

Sara, there is a duty free shop at Tioman airport and at Subang airport. The shop at Tioman is really good because it is cheap. Tioman is a duty free island and you will find the more expensive stuff such as champagne and premium wine are significantly cheaper at the Tioman duty free shop than elsewhere in Malaysia. The selection is pretty broad as well.

Thank you so much for sharing as there really is little review on this. Just one thing I'd like to ask, does the Berjaya airport have any duty free shops as my boyfriend and I plan on buying a few bottles of wine before we head to the hotel. Would appreciate it if you replied to my email! Thanks!!
